Mirai Movie Review: Visually Impressive, Emotionally Hollow

Mirai Movie storyline: In Mirai, Veda (Teja Sajja), a scrapyard dweller unaware of his destiny, is drawn into an ancient battle over nine mystical granths. Guided by Vibha (Ritika Nayak) and sage Agasthya (Jayaram), he faces a menacing dark force (Manchu Manoj) while his mother (Shriya Saran) holds the emotional key to his journey of becoming the chosen one.

Review:Mirai, starring Teja Sajja and directed by Karthik Gattamneni, is a technically ambitious Telugu superhero film that dazzles the eye but leaves the heart wanting. Unlike Hanu-Man, which struck an emotional chord through its underdog hero and devotional undertones, Mirai spreads itself wider — lush visuals, heavy VFX, and an epic backstory tracing back to emperor Ashoka and the nine powerful granths.

The problem lies in the storytelling. Despite the intrigue of sage Agasthya, secret societies, and a mother-son prophecy, the urgency never quite lands. Characters fall too easily, the scrapyard setting feels artificial, and the hero’s quest is rushed. While Teja Sajja’s everyman charm and Shriya Saran’s emotional gravitas shine, much of the narrative feels perfunctory until the later portions.

Manchu Manoj makes a menacing antagonist, and Gowra Hari’s score, along with flashes of creativity like the animatronic bird Sampati and “spiritual physics,” add sparks of wonder. The climactic showdown is visually grand, but the journey feels undercooked.

In the end, Mirai is all style with scattered substance. It sets the stage for a sequel, but to truly resonate, it needs storytelling with heart, not just spectacle.

Verdict: A slick superhero tale that entertains in parts but lacks the emotional core to soar.
