Hridayapoorvam Movie Review: Mohanlal’s Heartfelt Charm Shines

Plot

Sandeep (Mohanlal), a cloud kitchen owner and heart transplant recipient, is invited by Haritha (Malavika Mohanan), daughter of the late colonel whose heart he carries, to attend her engagement in Pune. What begins as a courtesy visit turns into an extended stay, where Sandeep learns that bonds can transcend blood and traditional relationships.

Accompanied by his quirky home nurse Jerry (Sangeeth Prathap), Sandeep reluctantly agrees to attend Haritha’s big day, so that she can feel her father’s presence through him. But an accident at the event forces him to remain in Pune longer. Over the next month, Sandeep becomes part of the household’s ups and downs—resolving conflicts, mending relationships, and realizing that the heart beating inside him carries not just life, but also love.

Direction and Writing

Sathyan Anthikad sticks to his signature formula of warmth, humour, and slice-of-life emotions. Sonu TP’s script, based on Akhil Sathyan’s story, flows gently, though the sentiment doesn’t always hit the emotional high notes one might expect from such a premise. While the comedy works in parts, some subplots—like the colonel’s friend (Lalu Alex) and Mohanlal’s filmmaker buddies—feel unnecessary.

Performances

Mohanlal is effortless and charming as Sandeep, grounding the entire narrative with his presence. Sangeeth Prathap stands out as Jerry, his chemistry with Mohanlal adding natural humour and warmth throughout. Malavika Mohanan and Sagita are graceful and effective in their roles, but it is truly the duo of Mohanlal and Sangeeth that steals the show with their camaraderie. 

Technical Aspects

Anu Moothedath’s cinematography captures breezy, colourful visuals that complement the film’s tone beautifully, while Justin Prabhakaran’s music adds pleasant, hummable tracks that enhance the mood without ever overpowering it.

Verdict

Hridayapoorvam may not reinvent family dramas or strike the deepest emotional chords, but it offers what Sathyan Anthikad does best—an easy, feel-good ride filled with charm and humanity. For festive times, it’s the kind of light yet heartfelt entertainer that families will happily embrace.
