Plot Summary:
Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly is a thunderous tribute to Ajith Kumar’s stardom and Tamil cinema’s cult legacy, where cinematic nostalgia meets international pop culture in an over-the-top, unapologetically fan-first narrative. The story revolves around AK, a once-dreaded gangster known as the “Red Dragon,” who renounces his criminal empire for his son—only to be pulled back into a storm of past betrayals, revenge, and wild globe-trotting mayhem.
Good Bad Ugly Movie Review:
From the moment Ajith Kumar steps into frame, Good Bad Ugly makes it abundantly clear—this is not just a movie. It’s a mass-loaded celebration, an action-packed montage of hero worship, wild cinematic cameos, and a surreal blend of animation, nostalgia, and glorified gangland fiction.
The Good: A Festival for Ajith Fans
Adhik Ravichandran orchestrates this film like a livewire tribute album. For die-hard Ajith fans, every frame is loaded with callbacks—iconic punchlines, classic background scores, slow-mo entries, and subtle (and not-so-subtle) references to films like Vaalee, Villain, and Vedalam. Add to that the surprising return of Simran in a brief yet poignant cameo, and it’s clear: this one’s made to ignite cheers in every theatre.
Trisha returns as Ajith’s leading lady, bringing elegance to the madness, while an ensemble cast featuring Arjun Das, Jackie Shroff, Yogi Babu, Shine Tom Chacko, Priya Prakash Varrier, and others fill the screen with chaotic charm and high-octane energy.
But it’s the flashback episode that sends the film into another cinematic orbit.
The Bad: Logic Goes on Vacation
Let’s get this out of the way: Good Bad Ugly doesn’t care much for grounded storytelling. The narrative jumps from Madurai to Mumbai to Seoul to New York like a fever dream, with each location serving as a platform for wildly imaginative sequences.
We’re treated to an animated origin story, where Ajith’s AK saves a Korean don’s brother—who turns out to be Jang Dong-soo from The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. Cue to South Korea, where AK earns the Red Dragon title. Then comes New York, where he teams up—again, in animation—with none other than John Wick (yes, that John Wick) to slaughter a battalion of gunmen.
Throw in a surprise appearance by The Professor from Money Heist, and it’s clear that Adhik is throwing everything at the screen. There’s even a cheeky nod to Vijay's Master, complete with a Kara Pori reference and Ajith mouthing one of Vijay's punch dialogues right before intermission. Fan wars will have a field day with this one.
The Ugly: Fan Service > Storytelling
While Ajith appears to be having an absolute blast, returning to high-decibel heroism after the restrained Vidaamuyarchi, Good Bad Ugly is less concerned with crafting a coherent plot than delivering mass moments every few minutes. It’s maximalist cinema at its peak—think of Petta on steroids, stripped of nuance but stuffed with adrenaline.
For the uninitiated or neutral viewer, the barrage of inside jokes, animated cameos, and whistle-worthy callbacks might feel excessive or alienating. And for those expecting layered characters or emotional depth, the film offers little beyond surface spectacle.

Final Verdict:
Good Bad Ugly is a chaotic, flamboyant, and often baffling ride—yet undeniably fun if you surrender to its madness. It's a rollercoaster built for Ajith fans, and Adhik Ravichandran directs it like a man possessed, throwing convention out the window in favor of fanfare, fantasy, and full-throttle masala.
Don’t come looking for logic. Come for the spectacle, the swagger, and the sheer cinematic audacity of seeing Ajith Kumar stand back-to-back with John Wick.
