Drishyam 3 Movie Review:

The world of Georgekutty has always been built on fear, survival and family, and Drishyam 3 once again explores how long a man can continue escaping the consequences of one terrible night. After redefining the thriller genre with Drishyam and Drishyam 2, Jeethu Joseph returns with the third chapter of the franchise, carrying huge expectations on his shoulders. While the film may not entirely reach the unforgettable highs of the first two installments, it still manages to offer a gripping theatrical experience packed with emotions, tension and clever storytelling moments.

The film opens with Georgekutty now living a more successful life. The once ordinary cable TV operator has transformed into a respected producer after making a blockbuster film inspired by his own life story. Outwardly, his family appears stable and settled, but internally, the scars of the past continue to haunt every member of the household. Fear still hangs over their lives like a shadow that refuses to disappear. Georgekutty’s elder daughter Anju is trying to move forward while battling emotional trauma, and his wife Rani still lives with constant anxiety that their carefully protected secret may collapse at any moment.

What makes Drishyam 3 interesting is that it does not rush into thrills immediately. Jeethu Joseph chooses a patient approach, slowly rebuilding the atmosphere and reconnecting audiences with familiar characters. The first half spends considerable time showing Georgekutty’s changed lifestyle, the emotional burden on the family and the growing suspicion that someone is once again trying to expose the truth behind Varun’s disappearance. The pacing may feel slow for some viewers, but it effectively creates tension beneath the calm surface.

The real strength of the film lies in the emotional conflict within Georgekutty himself. Unlike the earlier films where he appeared almost invincible, Drishyam 3 presents a more vulnerable and exhausted version of the character. He is older, mentally drained and visibly tired from carrying the burden of protecting his family for years. Mohanlal delivers this transformation brilliantly through subtle expressions, controlled dialogue delivery and silent emotional moments that speak louder than words. Even when the screenplay becomes predictable at times, his performance keeps the audience completely invested.

The second half gradually shifts gears into familiar Drishyam territory with investigations, hidden motives, suspicious characters and unexpected turns. A journalist reopening interest in the old case creates new trouble for Georgekutty’s family, while media attention once again pushes them into the spotlight. The film cleverly explores whether Georgekutty can continue escaping forever or if fate has finally caught up with him. Some portions involving the police investigation and media tracking are engaging, and a few twists manage to hold audience attention well.

However, the film also struggles under the weight of expectations created by its predecessors. Since audiences are now familiar with the Drishyam formula, many twists feel anticipated rather than shocking. Certain subplots begin strongly but are resolved too conveniently, and the screenplay occasionally depends heavily on coincidence. The emotional intensity is present, but the groundbreaking wow factor that made the earlier films unforgettable is missing in parts. The climax, while satisfying emotionally, may not leave viewers stunned in the same way Drishyam and Drishyam 2 once did.

That said, Drishyam 3 still succeeds as an engaging family thriller because it never loses sight of its emotional core. Beneath all the suspense and investigations, the film remains a story about a father willing to go to any extent for his family. Georgekutty is neither completely heroic nor entirely wrong, and that moral complexity continues to make the character fascinating even after all these years.

Special appreciation also goes to Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil, who bring warmth and realism to the family dynamics once again. Esther Anil in particular adds a few light-hearted moments that balance the film’s otherwise tense atmosphere. Siddique, Asha Sharath and Murali Gopy also play important supporting roles that add depth to the narrative.

Technically, the film stays faithful to the visual tone of the franchise. Satheesh Kurup’s cinematography beautifully captures Kerala’s landscapes while maintaining the grounded realism of the story. Anil Johnson’s background score effectively heightens suspense during key sequences and supports the emotional moments well. The editing could have been sharper in the first half, especially considering the film’s lengthy runtime.
