Dacoit Movie Review: Strong Performances Lift a Familiar Action Drama
Modified On: 14 April 2026 | Reviewed By: Team MoviekoopDacoit Movie Review: ⭐⭐⭐★ ★ (3 / 5) | Dacoit is a performance-driven action drama with well-executed action and a solid emotional payoff. However, its familiar storyline and underdeveloped emotional depth keep it from being truly impactful.

Storyline: Haridas (Adivi Sesh), a convict who escapes prison during the COVID period, seeks revenge on his former lover Saraswathi aka Juliat (Mrunal Thakur), believing she betrayed him. As he plans a heist to fund his escape to Dubai, he pulls her into the scheme—only for emotions, truths, and loyalties to complicate his mission.
Dacoit Movie Review: Adivi Sesh returns after a gap with Dacoit, a film that blends action, revenge, and romance. Directed by debutant Shaniel Deo, the film carries the promise of a layered narrative, especially given Sesh’s involvement in the writing. While it delivers in parts, it ultimately settles into familiar territory.
At its core, Dacoit follows a well-worn template—a man with a criminal past who is torn between revenge and redemption. The film attempts to elevate this with a love story and a heist backdrop, but the emotional foundation between Hari and Saraswathi feels underdeveloped. Their past is conveyed quickly, making it difficult to fully invest in their relationship.
The narrative briefly touches upon serious themes like hospital exploitation during COVID and caste dynamics, but these elements remain largely unexplored. Instead, the focus shifts to action and plot progression. Once the story establishes Saraswathi’s present circumstances, the trajectory becomes somewhat predictable, lacking the unexpected twists typically associated with Sesh’s films.
Where Dacoit truly works is in its action sequences. The prison escape, chase scenes, and heist portions are staged effectively and keep the film engaging. However, certain moments stretch logic, particularly in how characters behave under extreme situations.
Performances remain the film’s biggest strength. Adivi Sesh delivers a solid performance, convincingly portraying both the vengeful and vulnerable sides of Hari. Mrunal Thakur complements him well, especially in the latter half where her character gains emotional weight. Supporting actors like Anurag Kashyap and Prakash Raj add presence but are not given enough depth to leave a lasting impact.
Technically, the film is polished. The cinematography is slick and visually appealing, while the background score enhances the intensity of key moments. The music works adequately, with a couple of songs standing out.
The climax provides a satisfying emotional payoff and adds a layer of meaning to Hari’s journey, even if the path leading there feels familiar.
