Ace Movie review: A wild card entry that deals its hand with charm, chaos, and comic relief — but rarely hits a full house

Ace Movie Storyline: A mysterious man with a shadowy past lands in Malaysia hoping for a fresh start. But when the woman he loves finds herself in a desperate situation, he plans a robbery that triggers a collision course with a ruthless gangster and her corrupt stepfather, a cop with his own dark agenda.

Review: Ace is a genre-fluid film that dabbles in crime, romance, comedy, and drama — yet never fully commits to any. Directed by Arumuga Kumar, it unfolds like a cocktail of familiar Tamil capers, minus the bite. While the tonal shifts are jarring and the plot borders on absurd, the film keeps you mildly engaged. The first half meanders, but the chemistry between Vijay Sethupathi and Rukmini Vasanth brings warmth to a scattered narrative.

The film introduces a heist that feels too easy, a villainous cop exploiting his stepdaughter, a poker-playing protagonist, and a slew of half-baked side characters. Still, it all somehow comes together in a goofy, mildly satisfying way. The film tries to be clever with a couple of twists, including the hero’s backstory and ties to the villain, but nothing here feels fresh. It’s the kind of movie that works only if you're willing to suspend all disbelief — best enjoyed on a lazy weekend with low expectations.

Vijay Sethupathi's effortless charm and Yogi Babu's well-timed comedy rescue this otherwise lightweight affair. Rukmini Vasanth makes a decent Tamil debut despite dubbing issues, and though the film lacks sharpness, its casual tone and occasional laughs make it a tolerable one-time watch.
