Shivarajkumar Reveals How Cancer Nearly Forced Him to Exit Peddi

Shivarajkumar has opened up about a challenging phase during the making of Peddi, revealing that his cancer diagnosis almost led him to step away from the project. Speaking at a promotional event on Saturday, the actor reflected on his journey with the film and the support he received from its makers.

Shivarajkumar said he was immediately impressed by the story when director Buchi Babu Sana narrated it to him and even discussed the project with co-star Ram Charan the same day. However, shortly afterward, he was diagnosed with cancer and had to travel to the United States for treatment.

Faced with health concerns, the actor considered withdrawing from the film. But according to Shivarajkumar, the team was determined to have him on board. “Buchi Babu sir said, ‘No, we want you,’” he recalled, expressing gratitude for the filmmakers’ decision to wait for his recovery and return to shooting.

Calling the gesture heartfelt and memorable, Shivarajkumar described his experience on the film as a wonderful journey. He also shared insights into the story, stating that Peddi explores the many phases of a man’s life in a natural and relatable manner. The film focuses on the relationships the protagonist builds along his journey and carries a meaningful social message, backed by what he described as “wonderful writing” from Buchi Babu Sana.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, Peddi stars Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles. The ensemble cast also includes Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu Sharma, who makes his Telugu debut with the film.

Recently, the makers released a special song featuring Shruti Haasan alongside Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. The technical crew includes Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman, editor Navin Nooli, cinematographer R Rathnavelu, and production designer Avinash Kolla.

Peddi is scheduled to hit theatres on June 4.
