Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Eyes Post-Election Release Amid Censorship Hurdles

Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan could finally arrive in theatres after the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. With polling scheduled for April 23, reports indicate a possible release on April 24 or April 30.

The film’s release has been in limbo due to ongoing censorship issues. The Election Commission of India has currently withheld the film following concerns raised by the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification. The committee questioned releasing the film during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

Originally planned for a January 9 release, the film faced delays after the CBFC’s initial review in December 2025 recommended several cuts, which the makers claim to have implemented. However, controversy arose when a member of the original review panel filed a complaint alleging that the film hurt religious sentiments and used armed forces logos without proper consultation. This led to the film being referred to a revising committee.

Jana Nayagan boasts a strong ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain.

There is also ongoing speculation that the film might be a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, though the makers have not confirmed this.

The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E Ragav. Produced by KVN Productions along with Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK, the project is also believed to be Vijay’s final film before he fully transitions into politics.
