The upcoming Tamil film ‘Paramasivan Fathima’, directed by Isakki Karvannan, has generated significant buzz following the release of its trailer. Starring Vimal and Sayadevi in the lead roles, the film features a strong supporting cast, including M.S. Bhaskar, Aruldoss, and Cool Suresh. Dheepan Chakravarthy has composed the music for the film.
The trailer was unveiled on the official X pages of Naam Tamilar Katchi’s chief coordinator Seeman and Tamil Nadu BJP president, further fueling discussions among audiences.
Set against the backdrop of two contrasting villages—Subramaniyapuram, a Hindu settlement, and Yokobpuram, a Christian community—the film follows a love story between Vimal’s and Sayadevi’s characters. When their relationship faces strong opposition from both communities, they decide to elope. As the police investigate their disappearance, the story delves deeper into religious and cultural conflicts, addressing issues of forced conversions, inter-village tensions, and historical grievances.
The trailer has sparked controversy for its bold take on religious and social issues. Some of the most debated moments include:
🔹 M.S. Bhaskar’s character (a pastor) stating that Subramaniyapuram villagers are aggressive and violent, while Yokobpuram residents are educated and forgiving.
🔹 A subtle reference to a Muslim character’s involvement in a village conflict.
🔹 Vimal’s character questioning forced religious conversions, saying:
“You tell people to convert for money, and when they clash, it’s labeled a religious riot.”
🔹 An intense exchange where Bhaskar’s character defends colonial influence, suggesting it helped the villagers progress. Vimal counters, arguing that colonizers came only to exploit.
🔹 The trailer ends with a discussion about a church being built over a Hindu shrine, referencing historical religious tensions.
These scenes have ignited widespread debate, with many anticipating further controversies. While some praise the film for boldly addressing societal issues, others believe it may exacerbate religious divides.
Director Isakki Karvannan, known for tackling complex subjects, previously faced controversy with ‘Tamilkudimagan’, which explored caste and traditional practices.
With ‘Paramasivan Fathima’ set to release soon, all eyes are on how the public and censor board will respond to its bold themes and controversial narrative.
