Jailer 2 Locks Record OTT Deal Ahead of Release Buzz

Rajinikanth’s'Jailer 2' is already making headlines even before its release, with reports suggesting that the film has secured a record-breaking OTT deal. The Nelson directorial, which is nearing completion, has reportedly been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for a staggering ₹160 crore. This surpasses the ₹100 crore deal of the first 'Jailer', setting a new benchmark for Tamil films in the digital space.

If these reports hold true, 'Jailer 2' will become the highest-priced OTT acquisition in Tamil cinema. Previous big deals include Mani Ratnam’s 'Ponniyin Selvan' (₹125 crore) and Vijay’s 'Leo'  (₹120 crore). Interestingly, Rajinikanth’s own 'Coolie' was also reportedly picked up by the platform for ₹120 crore. However, none of these figures have been officially confirmed by the makers.

The sequel arrives three years after 'Jailer' and will see Rajinikanth reprise his role as ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan returning as his wife. The film will also bring back cameo appearances by Shivarajkumar and Mohanlal. Despite his character’s fate in the original, Vinayakan is also set to return.

The sequel expands its ensemble with new additions including Mithun Chakraborty, Vijay Sethupathi, Santhanam, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Meghana Raj Sarja, Anna Rajan, and Jatin Sarna. There is also speculation about Nora Fatehi appearing in a special dance number.

Backed by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, the film retains key technicians from the first installment, including music composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan, and editor R Nirmal.

While an earlier release date of June 12 was mentioned, reports now suggest a possible postponement to August. Official confirmation on the release schedule is still awaited.
