EmKoney, the first single from Draupathi 2, showcases a majestic royal wedding, even as Chinmayi and director Mohan G address backlash over their collaboration.
EmKoney, the first single from Draupathi 2, has arrived, presenting a lavish royal wedding sequence between Veera Simha Kadavarayan (Richard Rishi) and Draupathi Devi (Rakshana Induchoodan). Released on Monday, the celebratory track is composed by Ghibran and sung by Chinmayi, with lyrics penned by Selvamira. The film is directed by Mohan G Kshathriyan.
The announcement of Chinmayi’s involvement sparked backlash on Sunday due to the ideological differences between the singer and director Mohan G. Responding to the criticism, Chinmayi clarified that she recorded the song solely for composer Ghibran and was unaware of the film it belonged to. Mohan G, in his statement, urged the public not to target technicians for his political stance.
Despite sharing its title with Mohan G's 2020 film Draupathi, this new project is a completely different story — a 14th-century historical drama with no narrative connection to the earlier film. Draupathi 2 also marks the third collaboration between Richard Rishi and the director, following Draupathi and Rudra Thandavam (2023).
The film completed its shoot in September after an extensive schedule that began in Mumbai and wrapped up in Ariyallur. The makers are now aiming for a December release. The cast includes Natty, YG Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan in pivotal roles.
On the technical side, the team features music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, cinematographer Philip R Sundar, editor Devaraj, art director Kamalnathan, choreographer Thanika Tony, and stunt coordinator Action Santosh.
