After a delay from its original May release, the horror thriller Sumathi Valavu is now set to hit theatres on August 1, 2025. Directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai, the film explores a haunted site guarded by the spirit of a Tamil woman named Sumathi, promising eerie chills and rich storytelling.

After a brief delay, the upcoming Malayalam horror film Sumathi Valavu is officially set to release on August 1, 2025. Initially slated for May 8, the film marks a succesful collaboration between writer Abhilash Pillai and director Vishnu Sasi Shankar—who previously delivered the successful Malikappuram.

Sumathi Valavu delves into the mystery of a cursed location that’s been feared for centuries. At the heart of it lies the restless spirit of Sumathi, a Tamil woman who continues to guard the place from beyond the grave. The eerie premise, rooted in folklore and psychological suspense, is expected to bring a unique flavour to the genre.

The cast is led by Arjun Ashokan, Gokul Suresh, and Malavika Manoj, and supported by an ensemble including Balu Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Sidharth Bharathan, Sshivada, Shravan Mukesh, and Bobby Kurian. Notably, child actors Devananda and Sreepathyan, who gained fame through Malikappuram, also play key roles.

Backed by Waterman Films LLP and Sree Gokulam Movies, Sumathi Valavu features music by Ranjin Raj, cinematography by Shankar PV, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. With its strong technical crew and atmospheric promise, the film aims to stand out as a gripping horror story steeped in local myth and emotional depth.
