Pranav Mohanlal’s Dies Irae shatters records as Malayalam cinema’s biggest A-rated opener, heading for a ₹25 crore weekend with glowing reviews.

Pranav Mohanlal’s latest release, Dies Irae, has opened to a phenomenal response, setting new records at the box office. The Rahul Sadasivan-directed horror thriller, which hit theatres on October 31, has officially become the biggest-ever A-rated Malayalam opener, drawing packed crowds across Kerala and beyond.

According to early trade estimates, Dies Irae raked in an impressive ₹12 crore worldwide on its opening day, including paid premieres — surpassing Unni Mukundan’s 2024 action hit Marco to claim the top spot among A-rated Malayalam films. The film’s strong momentum continued into Saturday, with reports of over 230 late-night shows across the state and exceptional occupancy levels.

With advance bookings holding steady and positive word-of-mouth spreading fast, industry trackers predict an explosive Sunday that could push Dies Irae towards a ₹25 crore global weekend total — an extraordinary figure for a Malayalam horror film.

In the film, Pranav plays Rohan, a privileged young man whose glamorous life takes a dark turn after a mysterious death forces him to confront his deepest fears. The cast also features Gibin Gopinath, Sushmita Bhat, Jaya Kurup, and Arun Ajikumar in pivotal roles.

For Rahul Sadasivan, Dies Irae marks his third consecutive success in the horror genre, following Bhoothakaalam and Bramayugam. Staying true to his signature style, he blends psychological dread with supernatural terror, creating a deeply immersive cinematic experience that’s earning widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

With exceptional reviews and booming collections, Dies Irae is poised to become one of the strongest opening weekends ever for a Malayalam horror film — and a major milestone in Pranav Mohanlal’s career.
