The trailer of Rajesh Madhavanan’s Pennum Porattum teases laugh-out-loud village chaos, sparked by a leaked love proposal and narrated by a dog.

The trailer of Pennum Porattum, marking actor Rajesh Madhavanan’s directorial debut, has been unveiled ahead of the film’s theatrical release on February 13. Billed as a comedy entertainer, the film sets the stage for chaos, humour, and sharp social commentary rooted in rural life.

The trailer opens with a statutory disclaimer assuring that no animals were harmed during filming — a fitting introduction, given the presence of several domesticated and wild animals throughout the footage. Adding a quirky twist, actor Tovino Thomas lends his voice to Suttu, a dog who also serves as the narrator of the story.

At the heart of the narrative is a simple romantic proposal. A young man named Kumar expresses his feelings for Charu, but what should have remained a private moment reaches the wrong ears. The misplaced request quickly snowballs into widespread gossip, misunderstandings, and moral outrage, throwing the entire village into a frenzy.

Scripted by debutant Ravishankar, Pennum Porattum explores how rumours, misplaced righteousness, and collective paranoia can disrupt everyday life. The film features an ensemble cast of over 100 actors, most of them newcomers, along with numerous animals, making it a uniquely ambitious production.

The film premiered at the 56th International Film Festival of India and was later screened at the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala in 2025. On the technical front, it has cinematography by Sabin Uralikandy, editing by Chaman Chakko, and music composed by Dawn Vincent.

Following its theatrical run, Pennum Porattum will stream on Netflix. Speaking about the scale of the project, one of the makers said pulling off a film with over 100 debut actors and more than 250 animals was a massive challenge, praising the team’s effort in bringing the vision to life.
