Filming wraps on Padayaatra, reuniting Mammootty with Adoor Gopalakrishnan after 30+ years; the film explores tribal struggles.
Filming has officially wrapped on Padayaatra, the much-anticipated film that brings together Mammootty and legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan after more than three decades. The makers announced the completion of the shoot on Wednesday through social media. The project had gone on floors in January this year.
In the film, Mammootty reportedly plays Dr Devadas, a physician who leaves behind a thriving urban medical career to work in a tribal region. Inspired by Gandhian ideals, the doctor dedicates his life to serving marginalised communities but gradually finds himself confronting the injustices and exploitation they endure. Set against the backdrop of Adivasi life, the narrative explores themes of social resistance and systemic inequality.
The film also features Indrans as the doctor’s assistant, while Grace Antony and Sreeshma Chandran appear in key roles.
The screenplay has been co-written by Adoor Gopalakrishnan along with author and former IAS officer K V Mohan Kumar. The technical crew includes cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, editor Praveen Prabhakar, composer Mujeeb Majeed and art director Shajie Naduvil.
Padayaatra is produced under Mammootty Kampany, the home banner of Mammootty.
