Nivin Pauly and B Unnikrishnan team up for the first time in political thriller Prathichaya; trailer now out.
The much-anticipated political drama starring Nivin Pauly and written-directed by B Unnikrishnan has officially been titled Prathichaya. The makers unveiled the film’s trailer on Tuesday, marking the first collaboration between the actor and filmmaker.
Produced by Gokulam Gopalan under Sree Gokulam Movies in association with RD Illuminations LLP, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast. Apart from Nivin, it features Balachandra Menon, Sharf U Dheen, Ann Augustine, Nishanth Sagar, Harisree Ashokan, Saikumar, Vishnu Agasthya, Chiraang Jani, Neethu Krishna, and Sabitha Anand in key roles.
The trailer opens with Nivin’s character delivering a speech at what resembles a TED Talk-style event, questioning conventional definitions of success. He provocatively asks whether figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, E. M. S. Namboodiripad, and A. K. Gopalan should be seen as winners or losers. The narrative then shifts into a high-stakes political power struggle in Kerala, drawing comparisons in tone and scale to Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and headlined by Mohanlal.
Carrying the tagline “Image is destiny,” Prathichaya promises an intense political drama layered with themes of ambition, perception, and power.
On the technical front, the film features cinematography by Chandru Selvaraj, music by Justin Varghese, editing by Manoj, costumes by Siji Nobel Thomas, art direction by Aji Kutiyani, and production design by Shajie Naduvil.
The film has wrapped production, with shooting locations spanning Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, the Himalayas, St Petersburg, and Dubai. While the release date is yet to be announced, the film is expected to arrive in theatres soon.
Meanwhile, Nivin Pauly also has an exciting lineup ahead, including Dear Students with Nayanthara, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit with Girish AD, as well as Tamil projects Benz with Raghava Lawrence and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai directed by Ram.
