Mammootty hints at a possible vampire role and humorously recalls being “cheated” into a cameo in Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra.

Mammootty has sparked curiosity among fans after hinting at the possibility of playing a vampire—something entirely new in his illustrious career. During a candid interaction while discussing his upcoming film Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan and co-starring Mohanlal, the veteran actor playfully floated the idea.

“Have you ever thought of me playing a vampire?” he asked, leaving the interviewer intrigued. When pressed further, Mammootty responded with a teasing “Suspense!” followed by “Insha Allah!”, hinting that he remains open to exploring unconventional roles even at this stage of his career.

The conversation also turned to his brief appearance in Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, produced by his son Dulquer Salmaan. In the film, Mammootty appears as the mysterious Moothon—though only through a voice snippet and a fleeting shot of a hand.

Recounting the experience humorously, Mammootty revealed that he was unaware of the full extent of his “role.” He said he had only agreed to lend his voice for a brief line, and even the hand shown on screen wasn’t his. “They didn’t tell me I was part of it… they cheated me and did it,” he joked.

When informed that Dulquer hopes to expand his role in future installments, Mammootty quipped that he would first need to be convinced—especially about his fees—adding a lighthearted touch to the discussion.

Beyond the anecdotes, Mammootty reflected on the evolving reach of Malayalam cinema. He expressed a strong desire for it to gain global recognition, noting that language barriers are no longer a major obstacle. With technology enabling wider access, he believes Malayalam films are now reaching audiences who previously overlooked them.

Emphasizing that quality cinema has always existed, he added that today’s filmmakers are more aware of a global audience and are increasingly experimenting with fresh ideas and narratives.
