‘Lokah: Chapter One – Chandra’ Brings India’s First Lady Superhero to the Big Screen

Malayalam cinema is set to break new ground with Lokah: Chapter One – Chandra, introducing India’s first lady superhero. Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films and directed by Dominic Arun, the film marks the beginning of a planned superhero cinematic universe titled Lokah. Kalyani Priyadarshan takes the lead as Chandra, with Naslen playing a pivotal role. The teaser, which has created a stir on social media, opens in a dystopian, factory-like setting before shifting into explosive action, unveiling Chandra’s striking debut. It ends with graffiti on a wall reading, “She is coming.”

The film promises a visual and narrative style never before seen in Malayalam cinema, with cinematography by Nimish Ravi, music by Jakes Bejoy, and editing by Chaman Chacko. Supporting roles are played by Chandu Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian, and Shanti Balachandran. From its first look to the teaser, the project has built immense buzz ahead of its Onam release.

As audiences await Chandra’s silver screen arrival, the film also stands as a milestone for Indian cinema, giving the nation its first female superhero. Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan, last seen in King of Kotha, will next appear in Nahas Hidayath’s I’m Game, alongside Antony Varghese, Parth Tiwari, Samyuktha Viswanathan, and Mysskin.
