Directed By: Dileesh Pothan

The film is not adapted but inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Macbeth is one of the complex characters his transformation from a loyal person to a greedy psychopath is what Joji depicts though Joji's character (Fahadh Faasil) is about a loser who is been disregarded by his family and he has to prove his worth but the head of the patriarchy should die.

The film starts in Chekhov's gun technique format from a young guy's point of view. This reminds you of Syam Pushkaran's previous venture Kumblangi Nights (2019) which also starts with a young man's point of view.

The cinematographer Shyju Khalid has taken lots of static shot and wide-angle shots. there are quite a few close-up shots of Joji. It captures the psychosis of the character as a mere spectator.

We see Joji youngest of Kuttappan P K's who doesn't have his own identity and depends on his father. Kutappan has other two sons, a daughter in law and a grandson. Each of the sons has something to gain from Kuttappan’s demise and something to lose if he survives. Only one of them makes a decisive play for the throne. Joji, with the support of his sister-law Bincy (Unnimaya Prasad), executes a near-perfect crime that belies his reputation for indolence and diffidence.

The interesting thing about this movie comparing to Macbeth is the depiction of Lady Macbeth. Here Bincy is the one, but she is not who instigate Joji directly for his action but she is doing it passively and becomes a spectator,

Fahadh Faasil lives and breathes like Joji, he is unpredictable, his eyes speak loud and his actions can shock as audience and his actions even shock the character in the film.

This is Baburaj's meatier role after Salt and Pepper his portrayal of a drunkard who loves his dad and doesn't have much greed comparing to others are commendable.

One of the cruellest (and subsequently memorable) characters is Bincy, this movie’s version of Lady Macbeth. Superbly played by Unnimaya Prasad, Bincy sees in Joji the family plotter who will give her the material happiness that she seeks.

The real hero of the movie is the impeccable background score by Justin Varghese. Justin captures the mood of the characters and their madness beautifully. The music of the film transforms the tone of film.

Joji has a slight flaw of showcasing an urgency towards the second half to wrap the film which makes the characters slight half baked.

Despite the flaw, Joji is one more brilliant interpretation of the Bard of Avon's masterpiece creation and Dileesh Pothan scores a hattrick for his depiction of human behaviour through this time it's more cynical.
