After Tamil Nadu acclaim, Vipin Radhakrishnan’s Angammal arrives in Kerala on January 2, distributed by Dileesh Pothan’s Bhavana Studios.

Following its well-received theatrical run in Tamil Nadu earlier this month, director Vipin Radhakrishnan’s Angammal is all set to release in Kerala. The makers announced on social media that the film will hit theatres in the state on January 2, with Dileesh Pothan’s Bhavana Studios handling its Kerala distribution.

Though the release announcement featured a Malayalam poster, Vipin Radhakrishnan clarified in an exclusive interaction that the film will screen in its original Tamil version in Kerala as well. The decision underscores confidence in the film’s universal themes and strong word-of-mouth.

Angammal has earned unanimous critical acclaim, particularly for its sensitive handling of subject matter and the powerful central performance by Geetha Kailasam. Based on Perumal Murugan’s short story Kodithuni, the film centres on a quiet yet intense conflict between an elderly woman and her urban, progressive-leaning son.

The narrative unfolds when the son, played by Saran Sakthi, insists that his mother adhere to traditional dress norms ahead of his marriage—an expectation she firmly rejects. This seemingly simple disagreement sparks deeper conversations around autonomy, tradition, and generational conflict within the family.

Alongside Geetha Kailasam, the film features Bharani, Thendral Raghunathan, and Mullaiyarasi in key supporting roles. According to Sacnilk, Angammal has collected just over ₹60 lakh in its first seven days at the box office, further cementing its status as a content-driven success.
