Vijay Raghavendra plays dual roles for the first time in Rudrabhishekam, a drama rooted in Karnataka’s Veeragase tradition.
Vijay Raghavendra is set to explore a new milestone in his career with Rudrabhishekam, where he takes on dual roles for the very first time. Written and directed by Vasanth Kumar, the film draws inspiration from Veeragase, Karnataka’s centuries-old ritual folk art associated with Veerabhadra worship.
Known for its fierce energy and spiritual intensity, Veeragase forms the emotional and thematic backbone of the story rather than serving as a mere cultural backdrop. Vijay Raghavendra portrays both father and son, representing two generations connected through tradition, faith, and identity.
Calling it one of the most challenging roles of his career, the actor said portraying a Veeragase artist demanded immense responsibility. He added that playing two contrasting characters allowed him to explore deeply different emotional journeys while highlighting the connection between ancestral heritage and modern life.
Priyanka Thimmesh makes her comeback with the film and appears in three distinct avatars — a Shiva devotee, a village girl, and a contemporary urban woman. She revealed that the emotional strength of the script and Vijay Raghavendra’s grounded nature drew her to the project.
The film also features director Vasanth Kumar in a philosopher-like role. Produced under the Fan India Creations banner by a group of nine friends led by Venkatesh, Rudrabhishekam was shot across picturesque locations including Devanahalli, Gokarna, Honnavar, Kumta, and the Aghanashini backwaters.
Music for the film is composed by V Manohar, while the supporting cast includes Bala Rajawadi, Manu, Sanath, Bullet Vinu, and Mamatha Turuvekere. The makers are aiming for a June theatrical release, with the official release date expected soon.
