Ravi Basrur’s Kannada mythological drama Veera Chandrahasa is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The film, which released in theatres on April 18, 2025, brings the legendary tale of Chandrahasa to life with rich visuals and a Yakshagana-inspired aesthetic.

Ravi Basrur’s much-anticipated mythological action drama Veera Chandrahasa has made its quiet digital debut on Amazon Prime Video. The film, which released theatrically on April 18, 2025, was met with strong reviews and a solid box office run in Karnataka. Now, without much prior fanfare, it is streaming from May 31, 2025, offering audiences a chance to revisit its grandeur from the comfort of home.

A Tale of Virtue and Destiny

Veera Chandrahasa chronicles the inspiring journey of Chandrahasa, a boy abandoned in a forest and raised by a nobleman named Kulinda in the kingdom of Kuntala. Named for his radiant smile, Chandrahasa matures into a righteous and compassionate young man, only to find himself repeatedly targeted by dark forces bent on his destruction. With divine grace and an unwavering moral compass, he triumphs over every adversity, making his life a compelling saga of resilience, virtue, and fate.

A Visual Yakshagana Experience

The film’s presentation has drawn particular praise for its homage to Yakshagana, the traditional Kannada theatrical art form. Our review gave the movie a 3 out of 5 stars, stating:

“The film feels as though you are watching a Yakshagana play enhanced by vivid cinematic techniques, from its vibrant colour palette to expressive camera work. While key Yakshagana elements like Chande, Maddale, and elaborate costumes are on full display, the Kunitha (dance), a hallmark of the form, feels underused.”

For viewers interested in mythology and folk traditions, Veera Chandrahasa offers a unique visual and cultural experience. However, for those unfamiliar with or less drawn to the world of Yakshagana, the film might feel niche.

Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Veera Chandrahasa is ideal for fans of Kannada cinema, mythology enthusiasts, and anyone curious about seeing ancient legends brought to life through a folk-art-inspired lens.
