S Narayan’s Maarutha explores social media’s dark side, women’s safety, and family responsibility in the digital age, releasing November 21.
Veteran filmmaker S Narayan, known for blending emotion with social awareness, returns with Maarutha, a gripping drama that examines the dangers of social media and the urgent need for digital responsibility. The film, releasing on November 21, addresses how online spaces can become traps—especially for women.
“For many, Facebook and Instagram are lifelines—but they can also destroy lives,” Narayan explains. “Thousands of women have gone missing because of online exploitation. These platforms, though useful, are often misused by predators. People must realize how dangerous they can be.”
Maarutha stars Vijay Kumar as a determined cop who exposes hidden online crime networks. Brinda Acharya plays the female lead, while Shreyas Manju portrays a man entangled in this dangerous digital web. The film also features Nishvika Naidu in a special role and Sharath Lohithaswa in a powerful supporting performance. It is produced by K Manju and Ramesh Yadav, with music by Jassie Gift and cinematography by PKH Das.
Narayan reveals that Maarutha was both emotionally and creatively demanding. “It’s not just a women-centric film—it’s about how families must understand the risks of uncontrolled social media use,” he says. “As a father, I feel the need to tell stories that make people think.”
The filmmaker believes Maarutha will spark essential conversations about online safety. “Even celebrity families face these issues. Remember the recent case involving Akshay Kumar’s daughter? It shows how deep the problem runs,” Narayan remarks.
With Maarutha, S Narayan continues his tradition of creating meaningful cinema with a social message. “If this film makes even a few families more cautious and aware, that will be my greatest success,” he concludes.
