Raj B Shetty on Jugari Cross: “Capturing Poornachandra Tejaswi’s Essence Is Our Greatest Challenge”

After years of anticipation, K.V. Poornachandra Tejaswi’s celebrated novel Jugari Cross is finally being adapted for the big screen. The film is helmed by Gurudatha Ganiga, known for Ambi Ninge Vayasaytho and the upcoming Karavalli, and features Raj B Shetty in the lead. The teaser has already created a buzz, setting high expectations for this ambitious adaptation.

For Raj B Shetty, the project is more than just another role — it’s deeply personal. “There are two Jugari Crosses in my life,” he says. “I’m a fan of Tejaswi’s writing, and I’ve always admired Gurudatha’s direction. Working with him feels like destiny.”

The novel’s cinematic journey has been long and uncertain, with multiple filmmakers attempting to adapt it over the years. Raj feels fortunate to be part of the version that’s finally materializing. “This isn’t just a movie — it’s a part of Kannada literary history. Tejaswi’s words built worlds, and stepping into one of them feels surreal.”

Known for pushing creative boundaries, Raj emphasizes the importance of constant experimentation. “When I entered the industry, I didn’t know how long I’d last. The reason Kannada cinema is thriving today is because of risks taken by storytellers. Staying comfortable kills creativity,” he says.

Raj believes Jugari Cross has the potential to resonate far beyond regional boundaries. “There’s no such thing as only Kannada cinema — there’s just good cinema. If we can capture Tejaswi’s essence faithfully, the story will reach audiences everywhere.”
