Priyanka Upendra’s September 21 teaser explores Alzheimer’s with restraint, focusing on emotional depth and caregiving struggles.
The teaser of September 21, starring Priyanka Upendra, has been unveiled, offering a deeply moving glimpse into a story centered on Alzheimer’s disease. Directed by 22-year-old Karun Kshiti Suvarna, the Hindi film explores the silent struggles of those living with the condition and the emotional burden carried by their families.
Priyanka Upendra plays a devoted caregiver, while Praveen Singh Sisodia portrays a man battling Alzheimer’s. The teaser avoids dramatic spectacle, instead embracing stillness to depict memory loss, confusion, and the emotional strain associated with the illness.
The film aims to evoke empathy rather than rely on melodrama, allowing the narrative to unfold with honesty and restraint. Priyanka’s performance is said to be particularly understated, driven by subtle expressions and quiet moments instead of overt dramatics.
Sharing her vision, Karun emphasized that the film is designed to make audiences truly feel the weight of Alzheimer’s on families, without resorting to exaggerated cinematic elements. Authenticity remains at the core of the storytelling.
The supporting cast includes Zarina Wahab, Amit Behl, Ajit Shidhaye, Sachin Patekar, and Ricky Rudra.
Produced by Humara Movie, Visika Films, and FMD Productions, with Films Max as co-producer, the project also has an international collaboration with Frederic de Vaux onboard. The screenplay is penned by Rajshekhar, with music composed by Vinay Chandra.
Notably, September 21 was showcased in the Work-in-Progress section at the International Film Festival of India, where it received appreciation for its sensitive and nuanced portrayal of the subject.
The film is currently eyeing a theatrical release in May.
