Prem’s ‘KD’ Nearing Release Amid High Hype, Delay Raises Questions

Director Jogi Prem’s film KD is getting ready for release. Filming is complete, and post-production has begun. Currently, Prem and music director Arjun Janya are stationed in Budapest, Hungary, where the film’s re-recording work is underway.

Musicians and instrumentalists from around the world—who have never worked on a film before—are contributing to KD's background score. Prem mentioned that a live session will soon be held to share behind-the-scenes insights about the live recording.

The film, directed by Prem and starring Dhruva Sarja, has already created a massive hype. Two songs from the film have already been released and entered the hit list.

Recently, the team undertook a pan-India tour to launch the teaser of KD. Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty joined the team as they visited five states. The teaser release was followed by a press meet, and it received a great response. However, there is still confusion surrounding the film’s release date.

Prem had initially announced that the film would release last year, but that didn’t happen. Now, even after seven months into this year, the release date is yet to be revealed. Prem is known to consider the Varalakshmi festival lucky, leading to speculation that KD might release during the festival—but that, too, turned out to be false.

The first half of this year saw a slowdown for the Kannada film industry. However, films like Ekka and So From So turned out to be superhits. Several much-awaited films are lined up for release in the coming months, including Devil, 45, Kantara 1, and Landlord. Kiccha Sudeep is also set to release his next film towards the year-end. Amidst all this, discussions have started on when KD will finally hit the screens.

Produced lavishly under the KVN Productions banner, KD is being made in five languages for a pan-India audience. The story is set in 1970s Bangalore, based on real-life incidents. Dhruva Sarja plays a rugged role, with Crazy Star Ravichandran and Ramesh Aravind also part of the cast. Reeshma Nanaiah stars opposite Dhruva. Though the film was launched long ago, its release has been repeatedly delayed due to various reasons. Fans are constantly urging the makers to release the film soon.
