Nora Fatehi reacts to KD song controversy, says artists have limited control and accountability must lie with creators.
Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi has addressed the controversy surrounding the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from KD: The Devil, stating that real change comes when creators are held accountable, not just performers.
The song, originally shot in Kannada and later dubbed into multiple languages, sparked backlash over allegedly objectionable lyrics in its Hindi version. The Hindi track was eventually taken down following public outrage.
Nora’s Clarification
Nora revealed that she had shot the song three years ago in Kannada and was unaware of any controversial elements at the time. Since she does not understand the language, she relied on the filmmakers’ explanation of the lyrics, which she says did not seem inappropriate then.
She also clarified that she was not informed or consulted about the Hindi version, including the dubbing, altered lyrics, and even an AI-generated image used during promotions.
Distancing Herself
Upon understanding the Hindi lyrics, Nora said she anticipated backlash and raised concerns with the director. She chose to distance herself from promotions, citing risks to her image and reputation.
She also expressed discomfort with the use of AI in promotional material without her approval.
“Artists Have Limited Control”
Highlighting the larger issue, Nora stated that actors often have limited control over final outputs, especially in dubbed or modified versions.
“If people are concerned, hold the filmmakers and the team responsible. Targeting the artist alone won’t solve anything.”
She welcomed the public response that led to the Hindi version being removed and said she would be more cautious in future projects.
