Kannada Theatre and Cinema Mourn the Loss of Raju Talikote at 59

Noted theatre artiste and actor Raju Talikote passed away at the age of 59 following a cardiac arrest at Manipal Hospital on October 13. Known for his effortless humour and grounded performances, his passing marks a profound loss for Kannada theatre and cinema.

Raju had travelled to Udupi for a film shoot when he reportedly complained of chest pain earlier in the day. Despite being rushed for immediate medical attention, he breathed his last around 4 PM.

Born Rajesab Muktumasab Talikote in Vijayapura district’s Talikote, Raju’s connection to theatre began early in life. His parents founded the Khasgateshwara Natya Sangha, a travelling drama troupe. Leaving school in the fourth grade, Raju joined the troupe full-time, finding his lifelong calling on stage. His acclaimed play Kaliyugada Kuduka became a turning point, earning him the name that audiences would remember for decades.

A former Director of Dharwad Rangayana, Raju made a seamless transition from stage to screen, debuting in Anand P Raju’s Hendthi Andre Hendthi. He later gained fame with Yogaraj Bhat’s Manasare and appeared in several popular films, including Panchrangi, Jackie, Mylari, Anjada Gandu, Veerabahu, Jungle Jackie, Topiwala, and Bhajarangi.

Television audiences fondly remember him from Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, where his humour, warmth, and honesty made him a fan favourite. Whether on stage or in front of the camera, Raju Talikote’s charm and emotional authenticity made every performance memorable.

He is survived by two wives and three children, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of artists.
