Veteran actor Harish Rai, famed for KGF and Om, passes away after a long fight with thyroid cancer, leaving behind a rich legacy in Kannada cinema.

Veteran Kannada actor Harish Rai, best known for his memorable roles in Om and the KGF films, passed away after a prolonged battle with thyroid cancer.


A versatile performer, Harish effortlessly transitioned between menacing villains and heartfelt character roles. He gained immense recognition in the 1990s for his powerful portrayals of antagonists, later winning hearts with his warm and endearing performance as ‘Chacha’ in KGF: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.


Beyond Kannada cinema, Harish also appeared in several Tamil films, including Underworld, Meendum Oru Kaadhal Kathai, Raj Bahadur, and Sanju Weds Geetha. His notable Kannada films include Bhooghat, Nanna Kanasina Hoove, Nalla, Jodi Hakki, and Thayavva, each showcasing his dedication and craft.


Despite his illness, Harish continued working with quiet determination. During the shooting of KGF, he reportedly concealed the effects of his condition with a long beard, symbolizing his professionalism and passion for acting.


As his health declined, the Kannada film fraternity rallied around him. Stars like Shivarajkumar, Darshan, Yash, and Dhruva Sarja extended financial and emotional support. Harish often expressed deep gratitude for the industry’s solidarity during his fight against cancer.


Harish Rai is survived by his wife and two sons. His passing leaves a deep void in Kannada cinema, but his performances will continue to inspire generations of actors and fans alike.
