Chakravarthy Chandrachud Back in Khaki for Real-Life Cop Drama Ruby

Actor, writer, and journalist Chakravarthy Chandrachud is set to make a powerful return to the big screen with Ruby, once again stepping into the role of a police officer. Inspired by real-life events, the film casts him as a special cop who remains central to the narrative from start to finish, driving the investigation and its suspenseful turns.

Known for his ease in portraying antagonists, law-enforcement officers, and deeply rooted characters, Chandrachud brings both realism and gravitas to the role. His filmography includes Meloba Mayavi, Ranganayaki, 1975, Demo Piece, and an upcoming web series, reflecting his versatility across mediums.

Ruby marks the directorial debut of State Award-winning writer Raghu Kovi. The film stars Ram Gowda, who made his lead debut with Dilmaar, while Vaibhavi Shandilya of Gaalipata and Martin fame plays the female lead. The technical team comprises cinematographer Venkatesh Anguraj, editor Suresh Aras, and action choreographer Vikram More. The film is produced under the Ivan Films banner.

Speaking about the role, Chandrachud shared that playing a special cop felt both familiar and demanding. Drawing from his experience as a writer and journalist, he said understanding the psychology of the case and the character came naturally. He added that the film’s tension lies in how the investigation unfolds, with his character staying at the core of the story until the final moments.

Based on a real incident that occurred in Hyderabad, Ruby features five songs and has already completed nearly half of its shooting. The film is currently gearing up for a theatrical release in the first half of 2026.
