Street Dancer 3D is an extravagant reality show set in London and to look cinematic Remo has added some forceful story in the movie here and there which doesn't make any sense.

After terrifying Race 3, Remo is back to his comfort zone, by making a dance film. The guy has judged so many dance reality shows that he got many ideas for creating dance numbers but he forgot that cinema is not a reality show and it needs a story but yet the man managed to make a 2-hour long Dance+.

The film is based in London, so the two chief competing gangs have to be, naturally, Indian and Pakistani: the first is headed by hot-headed Sahaj (Dhawan), the other by pretty Inayat (Kapoor). Perhaps recognizing that neither is exactly fleet-footed, she much less than he, a sub-plot involving illegal immigration is shoe-horned into the film. But it ends up sticking out clumsily, added only to add teary melodrama about ‘Apna Watan’, and the longing to return home.

But the real trouble is that the dances are so seen-it-before, so-not-exciting. The two teams squabble while watching India and Pakistan play cricket, minded by club-owner Ram Prasad (Prabhudeva), who is given lots of time showing off his trademark moves (his iconic number “Muqabala” is given a long make-over), and it says something about the quality of the rest of it, that it stands out, regardless. As does Fatehi, who burns it up, whenever she gets a chance. And we have to say Norah should have been the female lead instead of Shraddha.

All the professional dancers, who are part of the film, have done an exceptional job when it comes to dancing, and this is what is expected of them. But we have seen them doing this on all the reality shows that they have participated in earlier as contestants, and many of them as judges now. Making a film just to show them dance as they do on a reality show doesn't seem to be an intelligent decision. However, Remo D'Souza should be appreciated for the growth he has shown as a director: from F.A.L.T.U. to ABCD to A Flying Jatt and yes, through Race 3.

The thin plot has two principal female characters. Neither is allowed much agency in the matter of where they want their lives to go. Shraddha Kapoor, the lead, has more footage than Nora Fatehi, who is trapped in a role that is barely delineated. Yet, the latter strikes it far richer. Varun Dhawan is all pumped-up, but style outweighs substance in an uneven performance.

Street Dancer 3D, two and a half hours of agony, is strictly for dance junkies. Sway out of its way if you don't belong to that category.

If you are a fan od dance reality shows and want to watch them in 3D then Street Dancer 3D is your cup of tea.
