Sanya Malhotra’s latest film, ‘Mrs.’, has taken social media by storm, with viewers calling it a hard-hitting and emotionally disturbing experience. The film, which delves into the realities of marriage, societal norms, and patriarchal traditions, has particularly resonated with women, sparking widespread discussion.

One scene, in which the father-in-law demands that the newlywed bride hand-grind chutney, has ignited conversations online. "This happens in my house too. I want to hit those people who demand it," one user vented.

Another shared, "In my extended family, they insisted raaita be hand-whipped, not blended. Patriarchy welcomes technology for men but resists anything that makes women’s lives easier." These seemingly mundane traditions reflect deep-seated gender biases, and the film’s unfiltered portrayal of such expectations has left viewers shaken.

Many fans have hailed Sanya Malhotra’s transformation from a joyful, independent woman to a subdued, exhausted wife as heartbreaking."Her craft is unmatchable. The way her face dulls after marriage made my heart weep," one viewer wrote.

Another commented, "I haven’t even seen the full movie, but the clips alone have me enraged." Some even found the film too intense to handle, admitting that just a few clips were more unsettling than a true crime movie.

Interestingly, the film has also struck a nerve with male viewers. "As a man, this film broke me," one user admitted. Another reflected, "The problem starts with society defining what ‘real men’ should be. Let’s focus on being decent humans first." Many are urging men to watch the film to understand the struggles women face daily and help break the cycle of misogyny.

‘Mrs.’ is the Hindi adaptation of the acclaimed 2021 Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, directed by Arati Kadav. The film follows a talented dancer whose life changes after marrying into a male-dominated household, shedding light on the gender disparities deeply ingrained in society.

Premiered on Zee5 on February 7, ‘Mrs.’ has left audiences deeply moved, frustrated, and reflective. Many are calling it a must-watch for every Indian household.
