Saif Ali Khan calls Haiwaan a fulfilling David–Goliath story, playing a visually impaired music teacher opposite Akshay Kumar’s menacing villain.
Saif Ali Khan has opened up about his role in the upcoming film Haiwaan, describing it as one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences of his career. In the film, Akshay Kumar plays a terrifying antagonist, while Saif essays the role of a visually impaired music teacher who becomes the sole hope to save a young girl.
Calling it a classic David–Goliath narrative, Saif said the film blends action and drama, while offering him something deeply rewarding as a performer. He added that every day on set brought a sense of excitement and artistic completeness, making the journey truly memorable.
Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is inspired by the acclaimed 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam, though the filmmaker has reworked the story with major changes to the dialogue and screenplay. The original starred Mohanlal as a visually impaired man who protects a judge’s daughter, and Priyadarshan has now confirmed that Mohanlal will make a cameo appearance in the Hindi adaptation.
The film marks the first-ever collaboration between Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, and Priyadarshan, while also reuniting Akshay and Saif on screen after 17 years, following their last film together, Tashan (2008). The cast also includes Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar in key roles.
Haiwaan is currently gearing up for a 2026 theatrical release, with expectations high due to its powerful cast, emotional core, and the return of Priyadarshan to the thriller genre.
