Nagarjuna Akkineni returns to Tamil cinema in a big way with key roles in two major films — Kuberaa with Dhanush and Coolie alongside Rajinikanth.

After a long hiatus, Nagarjuna Akkineni is making a grand return to Tamil cinema, reigniting fan excitement with his involvement in two highly anticipated projects. While he had a notable presence in the 2016 film Thozha, his recent choices signal a more deliberate and impactful comeback.

Nagarjuna plays significant roles in both Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Dhanush, and the upcoming pan-Indian action entertainer Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and headlined by superstar Rajinikanth. Known for his selective approach to roles, Nagarjuna has elevated expectations among fans by signing on for both of these big-budget ventures.

Speaking in a recent interview with Galata Plus, Nagarjuna shared his excitement about Coolie. He described the experience as being in complete contrast to Kuberaa, and when asked to sum up Coolie, he enthusiastically responded with: “Whistle, whistle, whistle!” The film is shaping up to be a mass entertainer with high-energy storytelling, stylish action, and fan-friendly moments. Featuring a star-studded cast including Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and reportedly Aamir Khan, Coolie is set to be another major outing from director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Meanwhile, Nagarjuna’s role in Kuberaa is also drawing attention as the film heads toward its theatrical release on June 20, 2025. His presence in both films, one rooted in social drama and the other in commercial spectacle, showcases his versatility and reaffirms his stature across South Indian cinema.
