‘Chidiya’ Trailer Promises a Poetic Tale of Childhood Dreams and Community Spirit

 Directed by Mehran Amrohi, the film features Vinay Pathak, Amruta Subhash, Inaamulhaq, and child actors Svar Kamble and Ayush Pathak in key roles.

Set in a cramped Mumbai chawl, Chidiya follows the story of two spirited brothers, Shanu and Bua, who dare to dream beyond their humble surroundings. Their small but powerful ambition to convert an abandoned junkyard into a badminton court becomes a catalyst for bringing together their entire neighborhood. What unfolds is a touching journey filled with mischief, hope, and simple yet profound victories.

Vinay Pathak, speaking about the film, said, “The beauty of Chidiya lies in its simplicity. Sometimes the most powerful stories come from the smallest, most honest moments.” Amruta Subhash echoed the sentiment, adding, “Chidiya is about dreaming big in narrow lanes. For me, it was about being fully present, no artifice, no acting tricks. Just truth. And in this film, even silence speaks volumes.”

Director Mehran Amrohi described the film as “a love letter to childhood resilience,” emphasizing how children find joy and freedom even in the most limited spaces. He added, “Shanu and Bua’s dream is simple, but it’s everything to them.”

Chidiya made its world premiere at the prestigious Zlín International Film Festival—the world’s largest children’s film festival—and has since garnered acclaim, winning awards for Best Film and Best Debut Director. It has also been featured at global platforms like the South Asia International Film Festival (New York) and the Cinekid Screening Club (Amsterdam).

Producer Faqhrul Husaini of Smiley Films remarked, “From the beginning, we knew Chidiya was special. It’s not loud or flashy, but it celebrates something very precious—the quiet strength of community, and the small victories that make life extraordinary.”

Distributed by Reliance Entertainment, Chidiya is all set to flutter into theatres on May 30, 2025.
