With blockbuster performances from Raid 2, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Bhool Chuk Maaf, May 2025 has emerged as a stellar month for Indian cinemas. The box office raked in over ₹320 crore, and June is poised to continue the momentum with high-profile releases like Housefull 5, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Maa.

May 2025 Delivers ₹320 Cr Box Office Boost with ‘Raid 2’, ‘Mission Impossible’, and ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’; June Set to Raise the Bar

The Indian film industry is basking in a wave of box office success as May 2025 wraps up with a whopping ₹320.47 crore in combined collections from three major films — Raid 2, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Bhool Chuk Maaf.

Following a strong start in April with films like Kesari 2 and Jaat, the momentum carried into May, anchored by the stellar run of Raid 2. Released on May 1, the action-packed sequel has amassed ₹168.74 crore in India alone over 33 days — surpassing its predecessor’s lifetime collection of ₹103 crore. The film has officially cemented its status as a hit, with global numbers pushing its success even further.

Just as Raid 2 began to slow down, Tom Cruise returned to Indian screens with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on May 17. The action blockbuster has so far earned ₹91.1 crore in India, closing in on the ₹100 crore milestone. Most of the revenue came from the English version, followed by the Hindi dub. Industry experts attribute its success to smart pre-U.S. release timing and brand loyalty. It currently holds the record for the highest opening day for a Hollywood film in India this year.

Adding to the winning streak was Bhool Chuk Maaf, which released on May 23 after a controversial delay due to legal issues with PVR Inox. Despite discounted ticket prices on opening day, the film continued to perform well, collecting ₹60.63 crore in just 11 days. PVR Inox CEO praised the film’s genuine appeal, calling it a "certified hit" and crediting May for reviving audiences’ interest in big-screen experiences.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed May’s success, emphasizing that good content, regardless of language, is drawing crowds back to theatres. Film expert Girish Wankhede echoed the sentiment, pointing to the balanced performance of Bollywood, South Indian, and Hollywood films.

Wankhede highlighted regional hits like the Tamil film Tourist Family (₹87 crore), Telugu actioner Hit 3 (₹119 crore), and Tamil thriller Retro (₹97 crore), which added significant heft to May’s numbers. Hollywood releases like Final Destination (₹55 crore) further contributed to the month's record-breaking performance.

What’s Next: June Looks Even Bigger

Looking ahead, the box office buzz is expected to continue into June with three highly anticipated releases:

Housefull 5 (June 6): A mega multi-starrer with Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, and others promises a laugh riot and mass appeal.

Sitaare Zameen Par: Aamir Khan returns to the big screen after Laal Singh Chaddha, raising high expectations.

Maa: A mythological horror film starring Kajol, from the makers of Shaitaan, is already drawing attention with a well-received trailer.

Adarsh adds, “June has the potential to outperform May with these major titles lined up. If content clicks, the box office could hit another high.”

As the Indian film industry continues to recover and thrive, May has set a powerful precedent — and June is shaping up to follow suit, if not exceed it.
