Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi has been postponed yet again. The film, which was slated to release on April 30, has been postponed due to a rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

The film’s team released an official statement and announced the same. Director Rohit Shetty informed his decision to postpone the film to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a virtual meeting held on April 4.

The statement read as, “The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with director Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current Covid situation in the state.”

Sooryavanshi was supposed to release on April 30, which was a year later than the original release date on March 24, 2020. The film was delayed for the first time because of the nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

On April 4, Akshay announced that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The actor was admitted to Mumbai's Hiranandani hospital. Today, Akshay revealed that he has been hospitalised as a precautionary measure.

He wrote, “Thank you, everyone, for all your warm wishes and prayers, they seem to be working. I am doing fine, but as a precautionary measure under medical advice, I have been hospitalised. I hope to be back home soon. Take care (sic).”

Sooryavanshi is the fourth film in Rohit Shetty's cop universe that began with Singham in 2011. After Singham and Singham Returns, Ranveer Singh entered Shetty’s cop universe with Simmba. Now, Akshay will take on Shetty’s cop universe forward. Sooryavanshi also stars Katrina Kaif in a lead role.
