Originally released on OTT as State of Siege: Temple Attack, the Akshaye Khanna-led action drama will now get a theatrical release under a new title, Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti, paying tribute to India’s elite NSG heroes who fought during the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack.
Actor Akshaye Khanna’s gripping 2021 OTT action film State of Siege: Temple Attack is set for a theatrical revival, now rebranded as Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti. Nearly five years after its digital debut, the film will release in cinemas on July 4, 2025, offering audiences a big-screen tribute to India’s special forces. The makers announced the update with a new poster showing a haunting silhouette of an armed commando framed by temple pillars, symbolizing the bravery that defined the operation.
Directed by Ken Ghosh, the film is a dramatized retelling of the harrowing 2002 terrorist attack on Gujarat’s Akshardham Temple and the heroic counterstrike by the National Security Guard (NSG). Serving as a standalone sequel to the acclaimed State of Siege: 26/11, this chapter continues to spotlight real-life acts of courage.
Akshaye Khanna headlines the cast as NSG officer Major Hanut Singh, supported by Gautam Rode, Vivek Dahiya, Akshay Oberoi, and Abhilash Chaudhary, who portrays the lead terrorist. Parvin Dabas, Samir Soni, Abhimanyu Singh, Mir Sarwar, Manjari Fadnis, Chandan Roy, and Shivam Bhaargava round out the ensemble.
Presented by Zee Studios and produced by Abhimanyu Singh in collaboration with Contiloe Pictures, the film boasts cinematography by Tejal Shetye and a screenplay by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo. With its emotional weight and real-life resonance, Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti promises to be a patriotic, action-packed cinematic experience.
