As the 78th Cannes Film Festival kicks off from May 13 to May 24, India is once again making a powerful mark with five diverse films selected for screenings. From restored classics to compelling debuts and culturally rooted narratives, the Indian presence at Cannes 2025 promises cinematic brilliance and emotional depth.

The iconic 1970 film by the legendary Satyajit Ray will be screened in its 4K restored version. Featuring Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee, the film explores friendship, class, and escapism in rural Bengal. Restored by The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation, the screening will be attended by Sharmila Tagore, Simi Garewal, and other cast members.
2. Tanvi The Great (World Premiere)

Marking Anupam Kher’s return to direction, this inspirational drama will be screened at Cannes before its theatrical release. The film stars Karan Tacker in his big-screen debut, alongside Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen. Anupam Kher is already at Cannes and has expressed great excitement about presenting the film on a global stage.
3. Homebound (Official Selection – Un Certain Regard)
Director: Neeraj Ghaywan
Masaan director Neeraj Ghaywan brings his much-anticipated sophomore feature Homebound to Cannes. Starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, the film will screen in the Un Certain Regard section, which celebrates innovative and artistic storytelling. This also marks both Janhvi and Ishaan’s Cannes debut.
4. Charak
