Men in Black starring Will Smith which was released in 1997 is still the cult favorite of many 90’s kids. This film made Will Smith a Hollywood star.

The new installment of the MIB series disappoints you and doesn’t gel up with the legacy of this series.

It is at once overly complicated, yet plotless - which leaves you with the decidedly upsetting feeling of being left behind, but with absolutely no desire to catch up. It’s a lose-lose situation, one that even the usually reliable Chris Hemsworth can’t correct.

He’s paired with his Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson here, but the film has absolutely no idea what to do with them.

The makers wanted to encash the Avengers popularity through these stars which is why they included many Thor references but this gimmick is against the film.

MiB: International, in addition to discarding the wonderfully absurd tone of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ original trilogy of films, fails to utilize the proven chemistry of its two leads. It anchors them to a screenplay so shoddy, that it almost seems as if they signed on to a different film altogether, but were contractually obligated to shoot another.

The film begins with a young girl named Molly watches from the window as MIB agents neuralyze her parents after an alien visit their home. Instead of scaring her for life, it gives her a purpose: she wants to be the one in a black suit, making others forget what they saw.

Years later, Molly (Tessa Thompson) brazens her way into MIB headquarters, where she impresses head agent O (Emma Thompson) enough to get a try-out. Christened Agent M, she’s sent to MIB’s London office, where she ends up assisting Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), who – like any good loose cannon – tells her he works alone and doesn’t need a partner.

Soon, they’re in possession of an alien weapon and being hunted by a pair of paranormal twins and the MIB itself.

Directed by F Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious) from a screenplay by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Transformers: The Last Knight), Men in Black has no grand aspirations. It's serviceable if unremarkable diversion from the real world, not a trip through it, despite its name.

If you are MIB series fan and want to cherish the memories of the first part then I suggest you skip this and revisit the original.
