'Maidaan' release put on hold by Mysuru court over plagiarism claims

The release of Ajay Devgn's biographical drama, 'Maidaan,' has been embroiled in controversy as it faces allegations of plagiarism.

Anil Kumar, a scriptwriter based in Karnataka, accused the makers of plagiarizing his script and obtained a court order halting the Maidaan's release. The scriptwriter claimed that he had been working on the story since 2010 and had registered it with the Screenwriters Association in 2018.

According to Kumar, he shared his story with ad director Sukhdas Suryavanshi after connecting with him through LinkedIn. Suryavanshi allegedly promised to introduce Kumar to Aamir Khan and subsequently received the script from him. However, Kumar claimed that he couldn't meet Khan due to unspecified reasons.

In response to the allegations, Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP stated on social media. They expressed disappointment with the court's decision, emphasizing that they were not allowed to present their side before the order was issued. The statement also clarified that the order was passed after the film's release, rendering it ineffective under the law.

However, the production companies stated their intention to appeal the order before the High Court of Karnataka. They asserted their commitment to seeking urgent relief and obtaining a stay on the order to ensure the film's release. The controversy surrounding 'Maidaan' highlights the complexities and challenges often associated with intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry.
